"Effect of Medical Ozone on Diabetes-Induced Cardiac Dysfunction.
"This study was carried out to elucidate effect of medical ozone on diabetes-induced cardiac dysfunction. Isolated hearts from different rat groups were studied in vitro by langendorff heart perfusion assembly in order to investigate intrinsic cardiac functions as well as effects of ischemia and reperfusion.
This work was performed on 96 female albino wistar rats allocated into the following groups:
A. Long-term groups:
1. Control group (n= 8).
2. Diabetic group (n= 7).
3. Ozone-treated diabetic group (n= 5).
Comparison of chronotropic, myocardial flow rate and inotropic activities were performed in all long-term groups under resting baseline conditions. Isolated hearts were subjected to 30min total global ischemia followed by 30min reperfusion.
Based on our data, it is likely to suggest that presence of diabetic endothelial dysfunction that possibly is implicated in reducing basal heart rate, myocardial flow rate and cardiac contractility. Exacerbation of endothelial dysfunction by I/R can be implicated in the early post perfusion reduction of heart rate, myocardial flow rate, peak developed tension and half relaxation time."
